If you take a look around this site you are sure to agree that Hadrian's Wall Country is well worth a visit. This page will tell you how to get here, and how to get around the area. Hadrian's Wall country forms the south-west corner of the beautiful county of Northumberland, just to the south of the Scottish Border. Getting there - by road

The district lies on the A69 trunk road between the M6 at Carlisle and the A1(M) at Newcastle. In addition the A68, the tourist route to Scotland, runs from north of Scotch Corner on the A1, via Carter Bar, to Edinburgh through the Pennines, Hadrian's Wall Country and the Northumberland National Park. Getting there - by rail

The fastest time from London to Newcastle is 2 hours 40 minutes. The scenic Newcastle-Carlisle rail line connects the frequent InterCity service of the east and west coast main lines. Connections are available with rapid services to all parts of the country. Rail timetable and fares are available online at:

Fastest journey times to Hexham - from Newcastle approx. 30 minutes and from Carlisle 47 minutes.


Getting there - by air

Newcastle International Airport handles domestic scheduled flights to and from Aberdeen, Belfast City, Birmingham, Bristol, Dublin, Isle of Man, Jersey (April-October only), London Gatwick, London Heathrow, London Stansted, Southampton.
European destinations served are Amsterdam, Brussels, Düsseldorf, Paris, Stavanger.

Getting there - by sea

Ferry connections with Europe are direct via the International Ferry Terminal, Royal Quays, North Shields, (45-minute drive from Hexham) or via the port of Hull.
